This is an update to the Emergency Boil Water Order issued by the Ministry of Health for Alsask on August 24, 2023.

The harmful bacteria that was found in the water sample analysis received on August 24, 2023 is E. Coli. Due to the bacteria being present, the Ministry of Health issued the Emergency Boil Water Order for the safety of the public.

All users of the Alsask water system are reminded to boil water for at least one minute before use to ensure bacteriological safety. This applies to any water which may enter a person’s mouth, water used for tooth brushing, soaking false teeth and water put into food or drink which will not be subsequently heated. Since harmful bacteria may survive freezing, ice cubes should also be made from previously boiled water. In addition to the above, all dishes and utensils should be soaked in a bleach water solution (approximately 2 tablespoons of bleach per gallon or 10 milliliters of bleach per liter of water) for at least two minutes after being washed to kill any bacteria which may be present.

Please seek medical attention if you are experiencing any flu like symptoms. You may also contact 8 1 1 for further medical guidance.

This order will remain in effect until water samples are completed and returned with results that declare the water is safe.

Updates will be provided as they are available through the mass notification system, SaskAlert, and on www.rmofmilton.ca
